Clarksville is where Howard County stretches out—rolling land, big skies, and homes with room to breathe. I’ve spent years working this part of 21029, and I love the rhythm out here: quiet mornings on Hall Shop and Ten Oaks, weekend games and errands at River Hill, evening light across fields near Triadelphia. A little history & what it feels like now
Clarksville grew up as a rural crossroads along MD-108 (Clarksville Pike)—you still see the old spine at Ten Oaks Rd and Hall Shop Rd. A landmark of that corner is St. Louis Catholic Church, built in 1889 on the northwest corner of Ten Oaks and 108, a Gothic-revival anchor that tells you this place has roots.
East of town, the Patuxent River was dammed in the 1940s to form Triadelphia Reservoir behind Brighton Dam—today it’s a local go-to for trails, paddling, and the spring azalea gardens (20,000+ blooms each May). The dam (in service since 1944) literally shaped the landscape on the Howard/Montgomery line—and yes, it still looks spectacular at golden hour.
On the west side, River Hill is Columbia’s final village—physically in Clarksville off Route 108. It started residential build-out in the 1990s (after years as a game preserve), and it’s split into Pheasant Ridge and Pointers Run. That planned-community DNA means open space, paths, and ARC expectations that keep exteriors cohesive without killing personality.
Bottom line: Clarksville today is a country-suburban blend—estate lots, horse properties, and tucked-away cul-de-sacs—where curb appeal actually matters. The houses are substantial; the standards are high. We paint accordingly.
